Before a tradesperson can quote for your job, we check their insurance and the certificates their trade needs, and we keep checking when those documents expire. Here is exactly what we check, what we don't, and what you should still check yourself.
Proof of insurance. Every trade uploads proof of public liability insurance.
Trade certificates. Where a trade's work needs a registration or certificate, such as Gas Safe registration for gas work, they upload that too.
We review it. A member of our team reviews the documents before the trade is approved.
Marked as verified. Only then is the trade marked as verified and able to quote for jobs in their area.
Where the law requires a registration for a type of work, we check it before a trade can quote for that work. The most important example is gas: anyone working on gas appliances must be on the Gas Safe Register.
Insurance policies and certificates run out. We store the expiry date of every document a trade uploads. When one expires, the trade is asked to upload a new one, and if they don't, they lose their verified status.
On many review sites, anyone can post a review. Here, reviews are tied to jobs that were invoiced through the platform, so every review is about work that was actually done and paid for.
If you have a problem with a trade you found through Home+, contact us and tell us what happened. We look into every complaint, and we can suspend or remove a trade from the platform.
Your agreement for the work itself is with the tradesperson, not with Home+. If you can't sort out a dispute with them directly, Citizens Advice can explain your consumer rights.
We would rather be clear about this than let you assume. Our checks are a starting point, not a guarantee.
That's why we also recommend the checks below.
